Here we are back again for another week of NHL winners! Last week, sadly, we went 1-1 (with our third pick being a postponed game). This less-than-exciting result has us fired up to hit some winners this week, but there were only two games on Wednesday so we delayed it to Thursday (and are considering doing so moving forward, feel free to let us know what you prefer). Due to the date change and some good lines, we have four picks today, so far this season we sit 24-10. Let's get into it!
Chicago Blackhawks vs. Nashville Predators
I have been fading the Predators for a while this year but that time may be at an end. In this matchup, I certainly like their odds in this one, despite their struggles, they have dominated Chicago recently winning five of their last six meetings. Nashville has also limited them to two goals or less in three consecutive games. The Preds' defence has been solid all year and they will have stud Juuse Sarros between the pipes so I don't expect that to change here. On top of this Chicago is on the road in this one, where they have struggled all year going (5-15-2) and are losers of six straight. Perhaps my thoughts on this matchup are best explained by saying I expect the Preds to score a few as their offence is heating up and the Blackhawks allow 3.45 goals per game. On the other end, I think the Hawks will struggle to score, as they only average 2.55 goals per game, and Nashville as mentioned above, is solid defensively. Lastly, the Predators have excelled at home recently, winning three of their last four contests; many signs point towards backing the Preds comfortably. Pick: Nashville -1.5 (+105) - 1 unit
Seattle Kraken vs. Winnipeg Jets
Simply put, these teams are on opposite ends of the spectrum, as the Jets sit at the top of the Western Conference while Seattle is in the cellar. On home ice, Winnipeg should have its way with Seattle offensively as the average 3.6 goals per game while the Kraken struggled in their own end allowing 3.2 goals per game. On the other end, the Jets are tough on defence allowing only 2.42 goals per game and have stellar netminder Connor Hellebuyck to bail them out when needed. The Jets are 8-2 versus Winnipeg all-time with a home record of 4-1. I expect the Jets to not only win this game but cover the spread with relative ease, especially after their 6-1 trouncing of Vancouver. Pick: Winnipeg Jets -1.5 (+120) - 1.5 units
Colorado Avalanche vs. Edmonton Oilers
These are two good, but slightly inconsistent teams. The matchup caught my eye and after reviewing the stats it should catch yours, too. First off, in recent matchups, Colorado has come out on top going 7-2-1 in the last ten games between these two. The Avs offense, which is often potent, is hot right now scoring three or more in seven of their last ten. On the season, the Avs rank seventh in goals per game and 10th in shots per game. Since adding Mackenzie Blackwood between the pipes their defence has greatly improved. Edmonton also has to come into this game on no rest after playing Minnesota last night. Lastly, the Avalanche have earned the fourth-most power-play opportunities so far this season, while the Oilers rank 24th in the league in penalty killing (77.1%). For all these reasons, I love the Avs here. On top of this, I'm on the over in this one, as I have faith in the Avs to score as explained above. Edmonton has also been good on offence this season. The Oilers scored three or more goals in nine of the last 10 games. They rank eighth in goals per game and first in shots per game. Pick: Avalanche ML (-130) - 2 units & Over 5.5 goals (-140) - 1 unit
