Detroit Red Wings vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
I expect a fairly good game here as both teams seem desperate to prove themselves in the standings. Despite this, I don't see a toss-up here. I think this matchup favours a team more than the market expects. The Red Wings have lost their past two games while being outscored 7-1, and the Penguins have lost three of their last four. In this matchup, I think partially due to the Pens' lacklustre defence the Red Wings should be able to generate some offence. On the other end, the Penguins have been overly reliant on their top two lines in generating offence and they should see a steady dose of Moritz Seider and Simon Edvinsson, who are great at limiting offence. The Red Wings will have Cam Talbot between the pipes, the best goalie either team has right now. Last but not least, the Red Wings are coming off a 4-0 loss to the New York Rangers but the Red Wings dominated time of possession and won the shot battle 37-24. They are due for some puck luck against a porous Pittsburgh club that allowed 6 goals to the Dallas Stars in the 1st period alone in a 7-1 loss on Monday. PICK: Red Wings ML (1 unit)
Colorado Avalanche Vs. Los Angeles Kings
The Avalanche have won three of their last four games while the Kings have lost two of their last three games. As many would expect, Colorado is a much better offensive team. Their advantage seems even greater when you consider they’ve been on a roll in recent home games, scoring 15 goals over their last three home games. They’ve also played well on special teams, converting over 33 percent of their power play opportunities, which is second in the league. The Kings aren't very good at killing penalties and they have struggled recently in their own end giving up nine goals in their last three games. It's more than reasonable to expect Los Angeles will have a hard time slowing down the high-octane Avs, especially on the man-advantage. To make matters worse for LA, they also aren’t doing so hot on the power play, converting 16 percent of their power play opportunities, which is 23rd in the league. PICK: Colorado ML (1 unit)
Toronto Maple Leafs Vs. Washington Capitals
There wasn't a third straight play I really liked today, so I have a little same game parlay for you instead. We're taking Connor McMichael, William Nylander and John Tavares to all have 2 shots in the game. All three players average above three shots per game (McMichael 3.14, Nylander, 3.38 Tavares 3.73). It feels like a safe bet that they all hit at least 2 in his game. Parlaying them together brings you to around -125 depending on the site.
